Shining Fates: One of the craziest sets in the modern TCG era

Hello everyone! This is Elena from Gaia Storm TCG and welcome to another article here at CCG Castle. Since the metagame is kind of stuck now (basically due to the lack of competitive special tournaments and the fact that Vivid Voltage didn’t introduce any game-changing cards) I think it is the perfect moment to cover one of the most anticipated sets in years: Shining Fates. There are many good reasons why this new packs are insane and I suspect they are soon going to become one of the most valuable products in the game. Let me explain why Shining Fates had received such hype.

1) The cards are not easy to get: We first need to clarify that Shining Fates is not part of the regular big collections that are released every three months, rather a much smaller set of cards that are released in exclusive bundles. Instead of being able to purchase a 36-packs booster box, if you want to get your hands on these mini-sets you need to go for things like Elite Trainer Boxes (8-10 packs) and Pin Collections (3 packs). As you can see, getting cards is difficult so that makes them expensive from day one.

2) The cards are incredibly good… and shiny!: I mean, you can’t ask for more. Shining Fates not only contains reprints of some of the most popular and played cards in the game like Crobat V, Mad Party, Decidueye and Centiskorch VMAX, they all come in an exclusive shiny or some ultra rare version. I can’t stress how important this is since it combines collector’s value and competitive one at the same time. And yes, not every single card on the set is going to be crazy expensive but the ratio seem to be pretty good and even if you don’t pull a big VMAX Pokémon you still have over 60 shinies in the set!

3) The Pokémon TCG Market has exploded: To me this is the final and most important reason. This is not the first time I have written about this topic and truth be told I don’t know if the situation will continue to grow like it has in the last months. But what I can tell you is that, with all the hype that there is currently around opening packs and grading cards, Shining Fates is going to become one of the most demanded collections this year. I can’t imagine what certain cards like the super rare Gold Eternatus VMAX or the shiny Charizard VMAX are going to go for… but certainly not a couple of dollars.

For the three reasons mentioned above, I really think that Shining Fates is an amazing set that you won’t regret getting, whether you are buying sealed products or singles. The only thing is that it might be difficult to get, especially in the first weeks following the official release.  So make sure to keep an eye on CCG Castle and get you favorite Pokémon!
