Four reasons why Vivid Voltage is an amazing set!

Hello everyone! This is Elena from Gaia Storm TCG and welcome to another article here at CCG. As you probably know, Vivid Voltage, the fourth set from Sword & Shield era will be officially released soon. The set comes packed with plenty of amazing cards that will for sure see play as soon as they become tournament-legal but instead of analyzing all of them, I’d like to go over 4 reasons why Vivid Voltage is for sure an exciting new collection:

1. Amazing rare cards: One of the main features that makes this set special is the inclusion of a brand new type of cards called the Amazing Rare cards. Apart from stunning artworks and vivid colors, these cards feature powerful legendary Pokémon (Rayquaza, Zacian, Celebi…) with very strong effects and attacks. Some of them, like Jirachi, have a really good ability and some others have incredible attacks capable of taking down entire strategies. The only downside of these cards is their high attack cost, that usually involves multiple energies of different types but I am sure they will still find their way to the top of the format.

2. Incredible new abilities: Vivid Voltage features many cool Pokémon with abilities we’ve hadn’t seen in Standard for so long and I believe they are going to add more flexibility to some of the current strategies. For example, we are receiving a new Eevee evolution line that negates abilities when Jolteon, Vaporeon and Flareon have an item card attached (Memory capsule); Electrode sacrifices itself to attach two lightning energies directly from the deck; Banette devolves an opponent benched Pokémon when it hits the field and Snorlax helps setting up the field by drawing up to seven cards!

3. Leon & Charizard dynamics: Of course, we all know that if there is an iconic Pokémon in the franchise, that is Charizard and Vivid Voltage wanted to make sure that there the tradition of printing strong Charizard cards continued. What I especially like is that this time Charizard is going back to its origins as a Stage 2 Pokémon but it has a fresh new approach by partnering up with Leon, a supporter card. Charizard deals 100 damage +50 for each Leon card in the discard pile, which is enough power to actually deal with most of the big Pokémon of metagame. It’s great that Pokémon is exploring again this synergy between trainers and their Pokémon (remember that Charizard is Leon’s partner in the videogames) and I am excited to see what this duo can bring to the metagame and make evolutions relevant again.

4. Powerful V Pokémon: And yes, we can’t forget that V Pokémon are probably the most anticipated cards of a set. In this case, they don’t disappoint. Aegislash is a great new addition to ADP decks with its capacity of hitting through Decidueye’s defenses. Talonflame V is probably one of my favourites cards of the entire set because it really helps getting a more consistent set up with an very exclusive attack that can be used in the first turn. We also get some very cool VMAX like Galarian Darmanitan capable of spreading bench damage (if only it had a different weakness!), an imposing Coalossal VMax that is going to threaten Pikachu & Zekrom’s dominance and a Togekiss VMAX that allows you to search cards with every attack.

So, all in all, Vivid Voltage is a very strong set that is introducing some never-seen before dynamics. And the best thing is that there are so many useful cards that will help diversifying the metagame and challenge the status quo. If you still don’t have your cards, make sure to get them here at CCG.
